Funding

Funding and Support Policies

Put simply: the Institute does not accept donations, grants, or other forms of support that limit or restrict our research or work, or that call into question our independence.

More descriptively: the Institute does not accept funding for research or activities with strings attached. All donors to the Institute agree to give their funds as unrestricted gifts or restricted for particular areas of study, but with no right to review or control the results, direction, or publication of the research. The research conducted at the Institute, and UC Hastings, is driven by faculty and staff direction.

Support for UC Hastings faculty associated with the Institute, including salaries and research are funded through the general budget of the law school and are independent of the Institute.
